Senior Pet Care

Owning a pet means taking care of them from the early stages of life all the way through until they become seniors. Our loving staff understands that your animal has been your partner for life, and they deserve the absolute best treatment in their old age.

Caring For Your Senior Pet

Keeping your pet as happy and comfortable as possible as they age is of utmost importance to our staff at Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care. As they get older, animals can become more susceptible to different types of illnesses and diseases and can also suffer from the usual aches and pains associated with living a long life! For these reasons, we highly recommend that your senior pet undergoes twice-annual wellness examinations to keep them feeling great in their golden years!

Even as your pet gets older, the signs and indications of age-related conditions can be tricky to identify. With regular senior care from a veterinarian, we can better detect health concerns in an elderly animal before they cause too much discomfort. Our examinations for senior pets include:

  • Bloodwork to help identify any conditions that may not be physically apparent
  • Urinalysis to help identify common conditions in older pets such as diabetes, urinary tract infections, and liver disease.
  • Arthritis and cancer, which may not be discernible through bloodwork or urinalysis, can typically be spotted using an X-ray.
  • Screening for glaucoma, which can lead to permanent blindness.

Since you know your pet the best, keep an eye out for any sudden changes in their overall well-being or behavior as they get older. If you notice anything concerning, don’t hesitate to contact the staff at Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care. We can help you set up an appointment with a veterinary doctor who will take amazing care of your senior pet.
